Special guest appearance by LaToya Turner. |
The Studio
is a brand new dance studio making its home in River Vale, NJ. It
is the creation of Joe Avallone, a mental health counselor and Frank
Posa, a television network editor. Both of them have many years
of training and experience as professional dancers and educators.
The two came together through the love of dance and the dream of
sharing that love with the community.
The venture
began this summer with a hip hop class geared toward young children.
The goal in mind is not just to teach children the art of dancing,
but also to provide enrichment to their lives. The hope is to build
self esteem and to teach children discipline that they can carry
over into other recreational activities, and even their academic
lives. Frank and Joe both interact with the children and co-teach
each of the classes. They both understand that dancing should be
a tool for expression, yet add an element of social activity to
the child's life. “The plan is to make each child's visit
to the program a pleasurable and interactive one.” “We
really want to add a sense of structure and positively impact each
student's life through the art of dance.” Having designed
the program around praise and recognition, each student gets a sticker
of their choice at the end of class. Also, incorporated into the
curriculum are activities for the children to bring home and share
with friends, such as CD give a ways and ceramics.
The vision
for the future is to expand the program to new heights, incorporating
a variety of different classes such as jazz, tap and ballet.

THE
STUDIO ANNOUNCES ITS NEW HOME AT THE FRED ASTAIRE DANCE STUDIO
The
Studio, a dance enrichment program that announced its arrival last
summer, has made a new home at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in
Westwood , NJ . Owners Frank Posa and Joe Avallone, have teamed
up with the famous dance studio to offer more of a variety and a
larger performance space. “Since The Studio opened its doors this
summer, the response has been great”, says Posa. “The pairing seemed
fated and a natural progression for us,” Avallone said when asked
about the new location.
Astaire,
previously named Stardust, was co-owned by Phil Santos of The Specialists
Entertainment. Santos and Posa have been friends and co-workers
for years, collaborating together on parties and events for Phil's
DJ Company. The Specialists are a local entertainment company that
provides music, dancing, fun and games for bar mitzvahs, sweet sixteen's,
weddings and corporate events. The two plan to team up for future
promotions at Astaire and The Studio.
Fred
Astaire Dance Studio is most known for its renowned ballroom instruction.
They offer group and private lessons, as well as practice parties
where you can show off your stuff. Now, with The Studio's presence,
classes in hip hop and tap have been added to the curriculum. The
idea is to broaden people's interest in dance. Free trial classes
are offered to people who may want to try something different. From
hip hop to ballroom, it's an eclectic mix. This joining of forces
will add a new element to Fred Astaire, attracting a new group of
clientele and the collective opportunity to share their passion
for dance with the community.
In
addition, The Studio is launching its new program for kids ages
3-5 years old, called “Small Fries”. The class will teach creative
movement, which helps develop motor skills in young children, along
with fun games and recreational activities. Small Fries will be
taught by Latoya Turner, a skilled and trained performing arts professional.
Ms. Turner's background also includes teaching children with developmental
disabilities.
Avallone
and Posa, along with Fred Astaire, hope to hold more dance contests,
parties and charity events in the future.
